Asset reliability is not simply constrained to the plant level and is, in fact, a permeating factor that exists across multiple functional levels in the manufacturing framework. It brings with it several specific concerns when developing methods to ensure holistic asset resilience. Particularly when there are distinct variables that exist across each level that must be considered carefully before any remedial measures can be effectively introduced.
However, a common pain point that exists across each level is the absence of actionable data insights on existing assets. Since data governs all future maintenance operations, the lack of visibility can be a severe handicap when seeking to enact any meaningful improvements initiatives for asset reliability management.
Some of the primary concerns across multiple levels are as follow:
- Corporate Level – Asset information management is often treated as an ad-hoc process across facilities. This can often create a transparency problem, leading to poor maintenance strategies. And if business’ heads lack discrete methods or tools to assess the issues, it can further detrimentally affect overall asset health. A lack of actionable data can also lead to greater uncertainty, increasing the risks associated with solution approaches for asset reliability, which further raises the risk of missing overall ROI targets.
