APPROACH FOR CONVERSION AND

CO-EXISTENCE

The approach to be taken is by and large influenced by
- Architecture of Legacy Code
- A well-structured legacy code simplifies the conversion process significantly
- Achieving modularity, which is the essence of Adaptive AUTOSAR, becomes easily realizable
- In case the legacy code is unstructured, a careful decision is taken in consultation with the all the relevant stake holders as to how much of the existing code has to be retained
Level of compliance required for the respective product
- The level of compliance and modularity can also lead to some migration scenarios
Tools
- The migration requires tool support on both system and ECU architecture level. Though Adaptive AUTOSAR provides formats for standardized Adaptive AUTOSAR data exchange for the seamless interoperability of different tools, the capability of the existing tools to support Adaptive AUTOSAR, is also an important factor

ANALYSIS APPROACH

Various possible scenarios for migration were analyzed and for evaluating the feasible legacy to Adaptive AUTOSAR migration scenario, the following steps were performed for each of the identified scenario.

Capture the advantages in each of the scenarios
Analyze the re-usability

Migration to Adaptive AUTOSAR from a legacy architecture could have better multi-core performance for ROM, RAM and CPU utilization while substantially increasing reliability and reusability across ECUs/products.

ADVANTAGES

To use older reliable software that has been in production for a long time. And in the same time arguments that a new software always contains defects, why not simply use the old code and make some small extensions? The evolution of features required in software today is huge. It is very hard to create a good architecture that enables adding all kind of future features not known from the beginning. Refactoring of the software is needed from time to time to be able to maintain and verify the software efficiently. Adaptive AUTOSAR platform provide interface to co-exist.
The benefit of Adaptive AUTOSAR is that POSIX compliant software can be reused, with the philosophy “write once, adopt everywhere”. Not forced to rewrite, we can benefit from existing open software or a software company may reuse applications for different customers.
